Hello Foragers!

We’re thrilled to have you on the land with us from February to November! We’ll be learning the bounties of the seasons, how to harvest and prepare wild foods and medicines and the process of rewilding our minds, spirits and our ecosystems.

Every month we’ll look at different plants (and occasionally revisit the same plant in different seasons for seasonally unique harvests) with different forage leaders to learn a broad spectrum of edible, medicinal and useful plants. The agenda will often be to walk, identify and harvest in the first half of class and then to process herbs or prepare and eat edibles in the second half.

Every month you’ll get a study guide like this one with some recipes, resources, and a look ahead to the next class.

This first month your Forage guides will be Lacey Walker and Taylor Roman, staff at Fox Haven. We’ll be talking about the context of foraging and our local wilds and the importance of giving to the wild if you expect to receive from it.

We’ll be making Willow Water and talking about the studies and use of this plant-aid and we’ll be pruning an Elderberry and making these cuttings into new plants. We’ll also begin our study of botany.

Take a look at our list of required and suggested/favorite books. We ask that all full series participants read Braiding Sweetgrass (or consider the audiobook because it’s amazing!) and that you consider one of the field guides and one of the medicine making books we have recommended.

We ask that each participant sign our waiver.
Please print this, fill it out in pen and bring it to class signed.
