Food and Medicine Foragers (early bird)

Fermenting Black Walnuts, tincturing medicinal wild weeds, nibbling Autumn Olive, weaving Wild Grape, plucking ripe Paw Paw, frying up edible mushrooms and so much more will be explored this year!

Join us for the third year of Fox Haven Foragers. We’ll visit some of our old favorites like Milkweed, Paw Paw, Goldenrod, Cattail, Jewelweed and Motherwort and we’ll introduce some new species to our forage like Witch Hazel, Japanese Barberry, Sassafras, and Blueberries.

Each Foragers class will include plant ID, foraging and processing the season’s bounty with local guides from diverse backgrounds and skill-sets. Class runs from 11am to 3 pm. For the first 2-3 hours class will be held in the field, gathering plants and learning botany skills. After a quick picnic lunch the last hour is spent processing and cooking or preparing the harvest into a tasty meal or a take-home medicinal.

*Please note that these classes will be held at the Frederick Municipal Watershed (with the permission of the City of Frederick and the Maryland Wildlife Department)

 

Pay in full by March 1st for the Early Bird price of $250

 

A $7 dollar materials fee is included in each class price. These skills, experiences and finished products are only $7 per hour.
