Flyer by Steve Ferendo
Join us for an afternoon of awe with two talented and passionate conservationists and wildlife photographers.
Dick Bittner, farm manager at Fox Haven Organic Farm, is a conservationist at the core of his being. He was born and raised in Frederick County and has spent much of his life here amongst the Catoctin Mountains and farm fields. He graduated from Johns Hopkins with an engineering degree that he put to use designing medical instruments for the hospital connected to the university. It was through his second career as a seller of farm real estate that his love for wildlife photography and conservation took hold and was then deepened as he took on farming. Dick has worked hard to create and maintain healthy living space for a variety of wildlife that call Fox Haven home. He relishes connecting with the living beauty that he immerses himself in at the farm and has captured some incredible images of some of the wildlife at Fox Haven.
Steve Ferendo, born and raised in north central West Virginia, came to photography while serving in Vietnam. Once his tour was completed he learned the art of photography and worked for the European Stars and Stripes before heading to Maryland where he became a civilian photographer in the medical field. NIH, Fort Detrick, the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and others called on Steve to bring clarity to projects through his photography. After Steve’s retirement in 2008 he fully embraced his love of wildlife / nature photography and has captured images for which many would never have the patience to wait for the perfect moment. Steve now takes many of his photos from his truck as a result of a severe leg injury, and his photos remain breathtaking!
