The Open Minds, Inc. Mindfulness Restorative Workshop on Saturday January 31st at Fox Haven was a success we had seven people from Washington and Frederick County Maryland. The workshop kicked off with a restorative yoga session taught by Judy Jenner from Harmony Healing Arts (Shepherdstown, WV). All participants were blissed out after the hour and half session and were gently lead into a contemplative art activity called “First thought, best thought.” The intention of all the artists engaged them in their creative process with contemplative awareness. All displayed personally meaningful images through this mediation.
The second half of the day continued with Amanda Adkins the co/founder and herbalist of Open Minds. This portion of the workshop focused on mindful eating, facts about how certain herbs and foods affect our different systems in our body, and skin care. Amanda gave an extensive talk about the effects certain herbs and recipes can restore the body during winter months.
The participants learned how to make bone broth, pine and nettle tea, smoothies, skin care, and were given a blessing to say while making and enjoying these remedies. Participants asked lots of questions during this session and a lively discussion about wellness happened, all of us learned from each other.
The workshop ended with loving kindness meditation and all expressed they will be practicing this in their daily lives.
Open Minds will be doing workshops in March, April, May, and June so please look out for future dates. We will be exploring mindfulness meditation, yoga, stress reduction methods, art, journaling, and mindful eating and preparation.
