Help us build a healthier community
… a reconnection to the natural world is fundamental to human health, well-being, spirit, and survival. (Richard Louv, The Nature Principle:Human Restoration and the End of Nature-Deficit Disorder)
Environmentally literate students understand environmental and physical processes and systems, including human systems. They are able to weigh various sides of environmental issues to make responsible decisions as individuals and as members of their community and citizens of the world.
Sponsor educating youth about nature and how we can best interact with it. Lessons on restoring landscapes, protecting waterways, growing food with minimal impact upon flora and fauna, utilizing gravity feed and renewable energy and more.
Did you know that honey bees pollinate 80 % of our flowering crops which constitute 1/3 of everything we eat? Bees are an essential economic resource!
There are hundreds of species of pollinating bees in the mid-Atlantic region. Support our work to teach young people about pollinator gardens, how to plant them – and all about the bees and other pollinators that need them!
Across the United States communities are developing youth-focused mindfulness initiatives intended to establish healthy life patterns and footholds for success among stressed individuals, families, classrooms and communities.
Support workshops for Frederick County underserved youth that teach them tools to reduce stress and “slow down” impulsive and potentially damaging and life threatening responses, and guide youth in how to make choices that lead to success.
“You can take all of the serious and critical problems facing our world today and find that most have their roots in education. I see farm-based education as actually having the greatest potential to create the possibility of hope in addressing the many earth and life- threatening issues that we face today.” (Dana Burns, Angelic Organic Learning Center/Farm Based Education Conference)
