MEET YOUR TEACHERS

Empowering Plant Identification Walk for All Ages with Jennifer Willett

In this class, we will explore our native flora and learn to identify plants through the use of a key (primarily Newcomb’ Wildflower Guide) and learning to tune into the details. This is an empowering way to really get to know individual species that is sometimes lost when we use an app to identify, allowing us to shortcut the essential practice of really noticing. Are the leaves opposite one another, alternating, or whorling. Do the leaves climb a central stalk or appear to spring right from the earth? Are they fuzzy, toothed, smooth or divided into a lacey appearance?

We will learn to identify plants by simply tuning into 3 details with each plant we meet.

We will also touch upon plant families and how getting to know the broader characteristics plants share within families can help you become acquainted with them and deepend recognition, based on shared qualities and physical arrangements.

10 Easiest Herbs To Grow with Hillary Banchowski of Sacred Roots Herbal Sanctuary

If you are new to growing herbs, the plants you choose can either inspire and excite you , or leave you feeling frustrated. Plants have different personalities and needs – some herbs can be a bit challenging , while others seem to thrive with little to no tending at all. Starting off with herbs that are easier to grow first, and then building upon that over time is a recipe for success.

Hillary will also be bringing a variety of live plants for sale including elderberry, tulsi, echinacea, and more! Be sure to bring cash or check to partake in these goodies! All plants range between $8-15.

McClintock History of Spirits & Bitters Tasting with Braeden Bumpers McClintock Distilling
Learn about the history and production process of making spirits. Afterwards students will get a chance to sample and smell bitters to identify taste profiles of different styles of bitters.
