Movie Night with Impact: The Smell of Money

May 11 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Come join us for a Movie Night Fundraiser – watch a great film, have some snacks, and help us raise money for BIPOC Wellness Day!

Join us for a night under the stars at Fox Haven Farm, Retreat & Learning Center! Bring your lawn chairs and snacks for a cozy outdoor movie experience.

We’ll be screening The Smell of Money, a deeply powerful documentary focusing on unethical agricultural practices and environmental racism.

All proceeds will go toward BIPOC Wellness Day held on June 15th. Funds will be used to pay teachers and sponsor tickets for people in need.

About the Film

A century after her grandfather claimed his freedom from slavery, Elsie Herring and her rural North Carolina community fight the world’s largest pork corporation for their freedom to enjoy fresh air, clean water, and a life without the stench of manure. The Smell of Money is the true story of everyday people versus corporate titans in a battle with life-or-death consequences.

A story about the power of love for one’s family and community to triumph over even the largest forces of injustice, The Smell of Money calls upon viewers to see the people behind what’s on our plates––and to join the fight for a better future for us all.

This viewing will support BIPOC Wellness Day at Fox Haven Farm

The objective of BIPOC Wellness Day is to deliver an immersive experience that combines art and nature, advocating for both individual and collective well-being. The initiative encompasses a diverse range of sessions led by BIPOC instructors representing various disciplines. Planned activities include Nature Journaling, Dream Pillow Crafting & Storytelling, Herb Walks featuring a community weaving project, Tea Tastings, African Drumming, free-flow dancing, and nature-based children’s crafts.

Community engagement is a central aspect, with BIPOC instructors leading sessions to encourage participants to explore and express their creativity. The intended impact revolves around fostering a sense of belonging in nature and celebrating diverse artistic expressions within the BIPOC community.
